I’ve tried a couple of translations of this book over the years and I’m not sure if I’m just in a place where my mind was finally ready for this book or if it was Sheed’s translation, but I really clicked with this book.  I’ve read it over a year and a half as a daily reader and have found it beautiful, thought-provoking, interesting and every bit of it worth the fuss that everyone makes over this book.  I read somewhere that Saint Augustine wrote it as a prayer and that was the light in which it was to be read.  After reading the Confessions, I agree.  (Especially since it ends with “Amen.”)  It was a man with a restless heart baring his soul after a very long journey that led to his heart finally finding rest in the only thing that could give it rest – God.  I join the many, many, many people who have and do recommend this book.  It was excellent and very fertile for contemplation.
