I read this book for Lent. It was a nearly perfect Lent book. It even had 45 chapters so you could read one per day and be finished by Holy Week.
I loved it. It had so much history and context – it really brought Christ to life for me. The reader spends the entire book immersing themselves in the Biblical scenes. Mr. Sheed gives a lot of information on everything surrounding the various episodes and, in many, many cases, had me looking at things I’ve read a hundred times with completely new eyes. He even took a chapter to make the reader rethink being too hard on the Pharisees.
It was well written with lots of joy and love. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone seeking to get to know Jesus a little better.
